CHICAGO — The exhibitions that led the pack in the trade show industry last year have been assembled for this summer’s Trade Show Executive (TSE) Fastest 50 Awards & Summit in Chicago. The Fastest 50 is the industry’s annual grand salute to the shows that outdid themselves during 2017 in terms of growing their exhibit space, number of exhibitors and attendance. The Messe Frankfurt New Era Business Media Ltd. division of Messe Frankfurt acquired the co-located Thailand Lighting Fair and Thailand Building Show from its Thai partners, The Exhibiz and the state-run Provincial Electricity Authority. ANAHEIM, Calif. — The four-day National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) trade show Jan. 24-27, 2018 at the Anaheim Convention Center drew the largest crowds in the show’s 117-year history — more than 115,000 people. That’s a 7.6% increase over last year’s attendance, and a 13.1% increase over 2016. The show’s global appeal is growing too, with an 8% jump in international attendees — nearly 20,000 people in all — representing more than 100 countries. ...
LAS VEGAS – Solid international growth helped GES boost revenues 6.8% in the Fourth Quarter of 2017 and 7.4% on the full year, parent company Viad Corp. announced. Revenues totaled $16.8 million in Q4, a 6.8% increase over Q4 2016. “Looking ahead, we remain focused on leveraging our full suite of services to gain share in under-penetrated and higher-margin areas like corporate events and audio-visual services,” said Steve Moster, Viad President & CEO, and President of GES in a news release. ...
PARIS  A large majority of trade show organizers anticipate revenue growth in 2018, according to the latest UFI Global Barometer. The 20th edition of the survey included input from a record 290 exhibitions organizers from around the world. The results found that 44% of companies enjoyed increases in profits in 2017 with 70% of respondents expecting their revenues to improve during the current year. ...
NEW YORK— UBM plc and the Mandalay Bay Convention Center (MBCC) in Las Vegas partnered to co-develop a new LED lighting system which will debut at MAGIC, a semi-annual apparel, footwear, and accessories trade show, next week. The multi-million-dollar investment will not only increase the brightness in the exhibit halls but also reduce energy usage by 85%, according to UBM. Within the 10-year project life, there will no longer be a need to recycle 26,898 fluorescent lamps, which equals 20.4 miles of lighting. ...
CLEVELAND—Marketplace Events announced the launch of another batch of new consumer shows, including four catering to the Christmas gift market in the Midwest. The new holiday shows are all scheduled to debut in November 2018. Marketplace has been aggressively expanding its consumer shows for the past few years, particularly in 2016 when it acquired nine events and launched another six. Last year, the Cleveland-based company picked up the Cincinnati Home & Garden Show from Hart Productions. ...

Cleveland — Starting in 2018, The International Exposition (I-X) Center will allow show organizers to use their own general contractors. The Center, near Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, is among the Top 10 convention centers in the U.S. yet it has sometimes struggled to land trade shows due to its exclusive work rules that prevented shows from using their own contractors. Now the former exclusive, full-service onsite decorating department can support whatever general contractor a show brings in or a show can use their services and supplies as a choice, not a mandate. ...
BETHESDA, Md. — Marriott International announced that it will cut commissions paid to third-party booking firms as of March 31. The cuts will reduce the commissions from 10% to 7% and apply to group business booked at all U.S. and Canadian properties. The move will impact all but the four largest third-party companies that book group business with Marriott — the largest hotel company in the world since its 2016 merger with Starwood Hotels & Resorts. Marriott’s brands include Ritz-Carlton, Bulgari, St. Regis, JW Marriott, Westin, Sheraton, Gaylord, Aloft and Element in addition to all Marriott-branded properties. ...

The Event Solutions Manager supports our customers by helping to coordinate the delivery of all Javits Center services as well as by serving as the conduit for matters related to building operations, event logistics, a safety first event environment and any ongoing renovation and/or expansion construction projects. The Event Solutions Manager performs these duties in the spirit of “Yes! I can help” at all times.
