An overwhelming majority of both Informa and UBM shareholders have officially approved Informa’s offer to acquire UBM, a move which will create a global trade show industry powerhouse. CHICAGO — The year’s trade show industry started out strong in January, but February’s numbers were less impressive. While overall exhibit space was up 3.8% in February, the number of exhibitors fell by 2.6%, and attendance was flat at a 0.4% increase. February’s drop in exhibitors was attributed to a variety of things, including the HIMSS show moving from February to March and surprisingly low numbers from MAGIC Las Vegas, which until now had been a perennial growth leader. SOUTHBOROUGH, Mass. — This spring’s Security Leadership Exchange isn’t until May 20, but event organizers haven’t wasted any time announcing a second show. CINCINNATI — An April launch party unveiled PiviP, an esports enthusiast event that will debut next spring with conference sessions, exhibits, and a live videogame tournament that spectators can follow on the venue’s movie screen. PiviP is a co-production of the esports event organizer AllMid and Bill Donabedian, who also runs the regional event organizer Brandemonium. “Esports and the video game community are growing like nothing I’ve ever seen before,” Donabedian said. BANGKOK — The growing Southeast Asian audio-visual industry will have its own InfoComm trade show beginning next year, it was announced in March by AVIXA, the Audiovisual and Integrated Experience Association.
