PSAV Acquires Hargrove with Goal of Global Expansion

Washington — Venerable event producer Hargrove, Inc. has been acquired by PSAV in a deal that will expand the presence of both live-events firms in the worldwide trade show industry.

Lanham, Md.-based Hargrove will continue to operate as an independent full-service event production company with CEO Tim McGill at the helm, reporting to the PSAV board of directors. “I could not be more excited to join the PSAV family, whose leadership shares our vision to create a world-class, global live-events company,” he said.

Based in the Chicago, PSAV, specializes in audio-visual and technology services. The company has about 1,500 worldwide venues, including convention centers, resorts and hotels.

PSAV’s acquisition of Hargrove follows up on its acquisitions last year of two British companies: Concise Ltd., an event software producer, and Hawthorn Theatrical, Ltd., which organizes live events. “This transaction was driven by the PSAV Board’s desire to create a network of companies that would be able to offer customers expanded production and exhibition market capabilities,” said PSAV President and CEO Mike McIlwain.

The two companies summed up the deal as opening a new door to the trade show industry and the booming live experiential events sector for PSAV. Hargrove will gain access to new event technologies as well as PSAV’s international customer base.

The acquisition also marked the end of an era for Hargrove, which has been family owned since its launch in 1946. Hargrove has created countless events globally with many in the Washington, D.C., area on behalf of a wide range of government, association and corporate clients. A particular claim to fame for Hargrove is its work on presidential inauguration festivities dating back to the Truman administration.
